I am talking about Katrina. My Aunt lived in New Orleans during the time of Katrina. Well let me say she was a far leftist Democrat who hated the 2nd Amendment and thought the even mentioning of guns was disgusting and immoral. Right after Katrina she, like many Liberals, was unprepared for the after math of the ‘storm’ when reality hit her. Marauders broke into her apartment, stole her things, and as you guessed it were in the process of her rape. She was extremely lucky her neighbor, 70 y/o little lady, heard the commotion and fired a warning shot with her 12 gauge. The Marauders escaped through the windows with whatever they could carry. Do I feel happy this happened to my aunt? HELL NO! But I tried many times to convince her to prepare, but she claimed I was spreading some far right wing paranoia. My aunt moved away to Miami, currently owns a gun and every couple of months goes to the shooting range to practice. I have not pressed the matter much with her but I can say she has let go of a good amount of her old die hard liberal stance. Anyone else think this will NEVER EVER happen to them and the right is just paranoid?

I’m strongly considering a remington 700 SPS stainless steel in .308 or .30-06. I’ve heard some good recommendations towards Savage arms, and for that a maybe a 10fp in .308, or something else in .30-06. I want to know which round will be more suitable farther than 300 yrds, which is more common, and accurate. And if you have any experience with the rifles listed above, i would be grateful to get some feedback about your experiences in rifles, rounds, or both.

would an old military bolt action rifle be better for an SHTF situation than a semi auto rifle?

i was thinking about this the other day, so figure you are going to want something that can reliably defend you from anything (bears,humans etc.) so it has to be a high powered caliber. second a semi auto rifle( ak-47, ar-15 etc.) need a magazine to function. what if you lose or break that magazine, then you have to load one round at a time, compared to the bolt action rifle that has an internal magazine that cant be lost. and lastly most military rifles were designed with the idea of hand to hand combat in mind, so they can be equipped with bayonets. Just tell me what you think and if you agree or disagree with me

I am looking at a few milsurp guns. But which one to have in an emergency and also for fun? I am looking @ an AK-47, an SKS, a Mosin Nagant (91/31 or M44), and a Spanish FR8. I want a fairly common caliber, firepower, carryability and other good features. Which do you reccomend/have experience with. And also, as a sidenote, you dont need the fastest, newsest whizz-bang gun out there. Just one that will do. Besides, once you take out a couple of the enemy you can ‘salvage’ their weapons! LOL….Thanks…
