Any detailed books on Colonial living/survival?

Can anyone recommend some detailed books or website on colonial living and survival. I emphasize survival because I do not care so much about social events but more on the preparing for winter, making tools, food storage, lumbering, and etc.

I am looking for books so detailed that I could take the books and actually use what they give me. I do not want the cliff notes version, I want the encyclopedia!

How do u get food on virtual villagers the 3rd?

I’ve been playing this game for about a week now, and I ran out of food for honey, and i hardly grow any food from the big peach tree. If i don’t get a lot of food, my villagers will go hungry and starve, and i won’t get any master farmers, or even an adept farmer. Are there any other food sources? If so, how did u get it?

How do I store butane?

I want to buy many bottles of butane to store for cooking in an emergency. Can they be stored in my food storage room in the house? Is it better in the garage? Or outside? If outside, is it safe in the cold Utah winters and hot Utah summers?

Why does the food in my freezer get freezer burn so quickly?

After only a week or so my food gets covered in frost and tastes bad. I use ziplock bags & my freezer doesn’t need defrosting.
